Giving

The National Forest Association, a nonprofit organization and key partner to the U.S. Forest Service, is committed to three initiatives addressing conservation, education and responsible recreation through a year-round portfolio of programming aimed at reaching Southern California’s inland urban and mountain communities as well as visitor populations on public lands.  Through partnerships and a strong volunteer backbone network, the National Forest Association brings communities of people, partners and funding resources to important public lands projects focused on health, stewardship and sustainability.  Here’s a sample of annual accomplishments on the San Bernardino National Forest: 

Conservation

Maintained and restored over 150 miles of recreational trails 

Provided backbone leadership to planting 26,000 native seedlings through Forest Aid 2010 partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and LA-Based TreePeople with over 3,000 volunteers. 

In addition, planted 10,000 seedlings through Children’s Forest Youth Leaders

Eliminated over 11,000 lbs. of trash from streams and forestland

Helped over 1,200 private landowners (to-date) within the San Bernardino National Forest thin overly dense fuels on their properties to create a healthy community forest

Education

Greeted over 500,000 visitors/mountaintop residents at Discovery Center, Children’s Forest, Fire Lookouts with focused environmental education messages through interpretive programming and guided tours

Reached thousands of school children with state approved curriculum aimed at molding tomorrow’s environmental decision makers, today; expanding the textbook to an outdoor classroom environment

Launched SBNFA AmeriCorps Conservation Corps offering inner-city youth workforce skills development and scholarship opportunities through conservation-related public service 

Recreation

OHV volunteers patrolled 250 miles of trails promoting safety and stay on trail messages, and checked for spark arresters/sound levels
 
Educated thousands of visitors through recreational tours

Connected over 2,300 music enthusiasts with Music in the Mountains summer concert series; enjoying quality music under the stars at 7,000’ while raising funds for Forest Aid initiative

Your Partner for Conservation, Education & Recreation

OHV Sponsor-A-Trail
Become a Sponsor-A-Trail contributor by sponsoring a specific road or trail.  By becoming a sponsor, your organization will optimize the positive impact of volunteer programs.  There are several levels available, along with corresponding recognition.  Customized partnerships can also be arranged.  To apply for sponsorship, fill out the enclosed application and return as indicated.

Adopt-A-Lookout
Support your favorite Fire Lookout! The Adopt-A-Lookout program helps us keep all eight historic lookouts maintained and staffed. Everyone who adopts a lookout will receive an attractive, "I Support the Fire Lookout Host Program" decal and will have their name listed at the lookout of their choice.

Adoption Options

$25 - Decal and your name listed at your adopted lookout.
$50 - The above plus a detailed history of your lookout.
$100 - All of the above plus an 8x10 color photo of your lookout.
$500 - All of the above plus a private tour of your lookout
$1000 - $2500+ Forest Crown Sponsorship
Your name/company logo on a special recognition plaque for the lookout and for your home or office.
